THE EPWORTH SLEEPINESS SCALE
The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is used to measure sleep deprivation. Use the following scale to choose the most appropriate number for each situation.
What Happens at a Sleep Study?
When you arrive at the sleep center, you will be asked to slip into your pajamas before the process of hooking up the surface electrodes (leads) begins. By attaching the electrodes to your body, the recorded electrical signals generated by your brain and muscle activity are sent through the wires and recorded digitally. A sleep specialist who interprets the study recognizes the pattern of this activity. This valuable data reveals whether or not you have a sleep disorder, and if present, how severe it is.
DirectionsScore each situation with the following values: 0 = no chance of dozing, 1 = slight chance of dozing, 2 = moderate chance of dozing or 3 = high chance of dozing.
Scoring Add up all your points. 1-6 = You are getting enough sleep. 7-8 = Your score is average. 9 and up = Contact a Sleep Specialist.
